Pay Rates: Up to £22 per hour Umbrella or £19 per hour PAYE inclusive of holiday pay

Hours / Working Days: 37.5 hours per week / Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm

Skills knowledge and experience

  • NHC or HND in related field.
  • Recognised Electrical apprenticeship or other approved training scheme plus relevant experience plus City & Guilds certificate or NVQ Level 3 or other recognised course at the appropriate level.
  • AP duties
  • Significant experience of commercial or public environment.
  • Significant experience with all types of electrical.
  • Experience of managing safe systems of work.
  • Demonstrate sound technical mechanical knowledge.
  • Demonstrate generic engineering , electrical and building maintenance knowledge.
  • Sound knowledge of the application of Health and Safety laws.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To work in accordance with the requirements of HTMs, Electrical Safety Regulations and other Electrical Engineering plant and services guidance.
  • Carry out authorised and competent person duties as HTMs, Electrical and fire safety Regulations requirements as part of the line management safety for all London sites.
  • Assist the external authorising engineers in with the audit and management of in house and out sourced electrical engineering system and services.
  • To provide supervision and training where required to other estates staff and contractors as HTMs.
  • Provide cover to carry out approved and competent person duties as HTMs as part of the management responsibility for safe system of works.
  • To assist the external authorising engineers in the management of the respective mechanical services.
  • To liaise with and support the work of the Operational Capital Team, undertaking new work projects assisting in feasibility studies involving close relationship with external mechanical and engineering consultants.
  • Ability to access and interpret drawings, schematics and O&M manuals.
  • Diagnose, repair, and service electrical faults in systems and associated plant, equipment and services. Fire alarm, access control, lifts and various other electrical systems and plants.
  • Provide interpretation and guidance to senior staff for the procurement of all electrical and engineering replacement equipment.
  • Work with other estates staff offering technical guidance leadership and management support in all matters mechanical.
  • Assist in the management and delivery of electrical new works and planned preventative maintenance systems and maintenance contracts.
  • Explore new techniques and innovations to assist the continuous improvement process across all mechanical and gas services across all sites.
  • Undertake electrical installation reviews of all systems, provide certification and provide recommendations for replacement equipment.
  • Undertake regular Health and Safety audits and reviews to ensure high standards of Health and Safety compliance are maintained by staff and Contractors at all times.
  • Assist in the management and control of electrical related contractors on site, including those involved on Service Contracts, Measured Term Contract, Capital and Day-to-Day works requests.
  • Liaising with electrical and engineering consultants on project design.
  • Attendance of training courses for progression, updates and refreshers in the pursuit of "Continual Professional Development" and life long learning.
  • Have basic understanding of the working of building and mechanical systems and a sound.
  • Carry out new works, reactive, routine and planned preventative maintenance requests.
  • Maintain and update maintenance records.
  • Use test instruments and craft skills to diagnose faults and carry out repairs.
  • Follow set procedures for entering a ward and tidying up after each job.
  • Inform and advise Estates Managers or estates maintenance team on the status of works and the materials or other resources required to affect repair.
  • To work with, communicate with and escort specialist contractors when required and ensure they adhere to all policies and procedures.
  • Keep a record of faults and cures and communicating these to the Estates Managers or estates maintenance team and other tradesmen and appropriate.
  • To work in accordance with the requirements of HTM’s, HBN’s, Model Specifications, relevant Statutory Regulations, Codes of Practice, British Standards and Trust Policies.
  • Follow departmental policies and comment/propose changes to protocols and procedures in light of experience.
  • Be prepared to work overtime with notice, occasionally doing unsociable hours, as requested by the Estates managers.
  • Frequent concentration required for fault finding, especially when dealing with an emergency situation.
  • Ability to use Microsoft office and software packages for basic data entry.
  • Provide supervisory support and cover in the absence of the Building Services technicians and or Estates manager.
  • Participate in surveys, audits/undertakes acceptance testing of new equipment.
  • Participate in the department on-call system, which provides 24 hours, 7-day cover. Whilst On-call the post holder will be expected to carry out duties of other trades as situations dictate, e.g. Building, engineering and electrical.
  • Undertake any other duties as appropriate to the nature and grading of the post.
  • The post holder will ensure that the service adheres to and actively promotes the Equal Opportunities policy of the Trust.

  • Employees must be aware of the responsibilities placed on them under the most recent Health and Safety at Work Act and ensure that agreed safety procedures are carried out to maintain a safe environment for employees, patients and visitors.
