Working closely with our Senior Environment Lead and the HSQE Team, your role will involve providing advice, documentation, and proactive recommendations for all areas of environmental compliance within LondonEnergy Ltd. and our subsidiary contractors on all LEL sites.

You will have the chance to quickly learn and develop within the company as you manage multiple sites and permits.

LondonEnergy Ltd operates the second largest waste management companies in the UK, handling and processing nearly 750,000 tonnes of London's waste every year. We have a dedicated team of people working across North London making a difference to the environment and the local community from the work we do. By processing household waste at our facility, we produce enough energy from waste to power 80,000 homes every year and recycle 70% of items through our Reuse and Recycling Centre's.

Your responsibilities will include:

Planning and Liaison

  • Provide Environmental advice, guidance and inspection services to the management, as required
  • Liaise with LEL employees and contractors to promote safe practices in accordance with management direction

Compliance

  • Monitor all LondonEnergy activities for environment compliance with policies, procedures and legal requirements, including environmental permitting compliance
  • Assist the preparation of environmental permit applications, variations of existing permits and permit surrenders
  • Assist in the preparation of new trade effluent discharge consents and modifications and monitoring compliance against existing consents
  • Support carry out environmental investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action implementation
  • Plan, review and action remedial work to comply with recommendations from audits or reports (from Environment Agency visits, ISO External audits)
  • Prepare environmental related reports regularly and on ad hoc base as required, including environment agency quarterly, bi-annually and annual reporting requirements

System Management

  • As requested, review, revise and support the implementation of the Company policies, procedures and systems to ensure work activities can be conducted safely in all areas of the Company
  • Support with ISO14001 requirements and continued accreditation to the standard through external audits and internal management system requirements

Training

  • Assist in undertaking Environmental training sessions
  • Assist in the production of Environmental training materials

Requirements

  • General knowledge of Health & Safety
  • Experience in environment management in an operational setting
  • Experience in auditing and conducting inspections
  • Strong communication skills both verbally and written
  • An organised / methodical approach and able to multi-task and perform under pressure.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office, ability to prepare Excel spreadsheets, reports, in Word and presentations in PowerPoint. 
  • Ability to form good working relationships with a wide spectrum of colleagues across all levels of the business and external partners
  • Ability to manage own time and liaise to assess priorities
  • Strong team player and ability to support other team members.
  • Ability to learn quickly and work under pressure, maintain a high level of accuracy and detail
  • Bonus if you have experience of using D365 system or alternative HSQE reporting system
