English and Maths Tutor (Skills for Life)

Permanent Full Time Accrington and Bury, Lancashire, Greater Manchester

Reporting to the Skills for Life Manager, the role will be to deliver innovative teaching and learning English and maths sessions to apprentices and Study Programme learners. The role will require high quality teaching, support, planning, monitoring and formal reviewing of the learner’s progress from the start through to the final assessment. This is an exciting opportunity for a talented individual to join a top-quality Training Provider with a proven track record in the Training and Development sector.
The successful applicant will be working with the Study Programme and Skills for Life Teams, delivering both maths and English sessions as part of the Study Programme and apprenticeships curriculum.

Your role will include offering additional support in English and maths to apprentices and Study Programme learners to enable them to achieve the Functional Skills qualification, if required.

Key Duties/Responsibilities

Deliver high quality English/maths sessions for learners across the provision and promote the development of digital skills.

Be involved in preparing schemes of work, lesson plans and related resources as required, mapping all relevant documentation to the Subject Content Statements.

Make reasonably practicable efforts to remove any barriers to learning which are affecting the learner’s progress.

Enable learners to develop their maths and English skills by ensuring that all work is marked and constructive feedback is given.

Carry out assessments (entry level/S&L) as per the requirements of the awarding organisation.

Maintain communication with:

Learners between visits to support independent learning eg setting independent tasks/pre-tasks and providing meaningful feedback.with all parties involved with the learners eg Occupational Tutor, Study Programme Tutor and employer.

Adhere to the observation schedule and ensure that observations are carried out on time. Also, to reflect on feedback and complete actions.

Have knowledge of and work towards the ETF Professional Standards.

Attend all training as required and keep abreast of all new developments re Skills for Life/Functional Skills.

We need you to have:

A recognised teaching qualification eg CertEd, PGCE, CTLLS, DTLLS and Level 4/5 Subject Specialism in maths and/or English and previous experience of delivering maths and/or English. Ideally with knowledge and understanding of the Functional Skills Subject Content. Excellent communication skills. Passionate about maths and English and supporting learners to progress.
