Established over 30 years ago, Relay was incorporated in 1989 as Relay South-West, later changing its name to Relay Engineering in January 2007.

In 2006 Relay was acquired by The Denholm Group and is now an integral part of Denholm Energy Services which has operations in the Caspian, Middle East, UK and USA.

Relay continues to provide mechanical, electrical and constructive engineering solutions to the marine, oil and gas sectors. We have branches in the UK and Middle East, and a subsidiary company, Relay Zholdas in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Relay employs over 300 personnel, with skilled individuals in the mechanical and electrical trades. Our teams are flexible and multi-skilled allowing rapid deployment worldwide.

We are a preferred supplier to a number of major defence contractors and with a range of other distinctive and diverse customers.

We are now recruiting for an Engineering Contracts Manager to assume responsibility for:

  • Planning and organising production schedules.
  • Assessing project and resources requirements.
  • Reviewing technical documents, estimating, bid preparation, negotiating and agreeing budgets and timescales with clients and managers.
  • Determining quality control standards, promoting the quality management system, and assisting with audits.
  • Carrying out site visits, for tendering and monitoring purposes.
  • Overseeing production processes and advising on processes being used.
  • Re-negotiating timescales or schedules as necessary.
  • Selecting, ordering, and purchasing materials.
  • Organising the repair and routine maintenance of plant and equipment; and the calibration of production equipment.
  • Liaising with customers and staff at all levels.
  • Producing an invoicing list and monthly forecasts.
  • Compiling Method statements and Risk Assessments.

The Contracts Manager must also be able to handle responsibility and the pressure of meeting deadlines. Working hours are core and additional hours maybe required to suit tasks in hand.

This role may require working away from home on occasions (UK or abroad).

This position is open to graduates from any degree discipline; however, a good engineering working background is required.

In order to be successful in this role it is absolutely essential that you possess knowledge of manufacturing electrical and mechanical systems, parts and installations.

In addition to this you should have experience as / in the following:

  • Materials planning, scheduling and organisation.
  • Project management
  • Interpersonal Skills
  • Exception problem solving capabilities, under strict engineering deadlines.
  • IT and numerical
  • Reporting writing
  • NEC 4 and CDM Knowledge

It would be great if you had experience in the Marine sector however this is not essential.

As the Plymouth Office and Workshop is located in HM Naval Base and the majority of work is undertaken on military vessels/premises MOD security clearance to SC level will be required.
