Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer required for a manufacturer of Switchgear based in Hove.
Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer Position OverviewSupport the design and development of low and medium voltage switchgear projects.
- Support the new product introduction process from feasibility to production implementation.
- Design products, taking into consideration robust design (DFMEA, Functional Analysis, etc.) and ensure that it is fit for manufacture (efficient manufacturing and assembly processes).
- Work within the relevant Engineering procedures & comply with the company's Quality Procedures.
- Ensure that all design and test activities are correctly documented.
- Positively contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the department.
- Support the production process, as and when required.
- Attend customer's sites for the purpose of meetings, investigations and maintenance.
- Assist in the investigation and analysis of customer issues.
- Adherence to, and promotion of all Company Health, Safety and Environmental procedures, directives and Safe Working Practices.
Any other duties commensurate with the skills and level of position, as determined by the Engineering Manager.
Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer Position RequirementsQualifications:
- Essential - HNC in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience/apprenticeship.
- Desirable - Engineering Degree, with a bias toward Mechanical/Electrical engineering
Experience:
- Essential
- Good level of mechanical engineering knowledge and experience.
- Knowledge and experience of CAD 2D/3D packages (preferably SolidWorks).
- Working knowledge of Risk Management.
- Knowledge of material properties.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person and in print.
- Desirable
- Experience in design of low and medium voltage switchgear, and/or railway overhead line equipment.
- Experience in mechanical drive and interlock design.
- Experience of Thermoset and Thermoplastic moulding.
- Working knowledge of static and dynamic simulation packages.
Basic knowledge of dielectric performance on air and solid insulators.
- Understanding of relevant IEC and BS EN standards (e.g. IEC 62271-1, BS EN 50123-1
Salary dependent on experience likely circa £35k
