Electrical Consultant (Forensic Test Focus)
Location: Cheshire
Type: Permanent
Salary: Senior Consultant (£50-55k), Principal Consultant (£60-65k)

Russell Taylor is working with a well-established energy consultant company based in the Cheshire region who have both Senior and Principal Electrical Consultants available (with a forensic focus) to join a forward-thinking company where welfare is at the forefront of priorities. The ideal candidate could be anywhere from someone starting their career or an experienced professional looking to take the next step up. You will be delivering forensic and failure investigations of power systems in particular switchgear and cable systems. There will be both office-based projects and practical laboratory work.

The Role:
• Project manage Electrical Power Cable Systems (LV / MV / HV) which determine the root cause of issues / failures; following up with practical reports to reduce future incidents.
• Strip down power plant systems.
• Project delivery- planning, evidence collation, reporting, project clean up and closure.
• Provide technical advice to the team
• Provide expert opinions across the Forensics division.
• Build and develop relationships with customers within the industry; take lead with identifying new business opportunities.
• Typical investigations:
• Analysis of compliance (BS / IEC Standards)
• Assessment of polymeric cable dielectrics (Voids, oxidations, inclusions etc...)
• Assessment of systems for signs of failure
• Failure investigations
• Role will include assisting the running of the laboratories (Training will be provided)
• Ensuring calibration of instruments are up to date.

The Person:
• Degree of equivalent in the electrical field.
• Excellent analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills with a good attention to detail.
• Be able to maintain a high level of consistency to ensure consistent test standards.
• Be able to develop relationships with Clients
• Ability to write technical reports
• Experience working for a switchgear equipment manufacture, power plant or utility organisation.
• Work to deadlines and manage own calendar.
• Take a practical approach to assessments and testing.
• The knowledge of power systems plant and it's operation.
• An in-depth knowledge / understanding of cabling systems (Design and construction of power cables, joints etc : electrical field distributions; common failures; partial discharge and its significance in the degradation of cabling systems.)
• How to sperate observations following failure from the root cause failure.
• Knowledge of potential risks and mitigation factors.
• Some experience with high voltage testing would be desirable.
