Salary: £25,000 per annum

Our client is an independent, award winning, publishing company. They create books and products that ignite and nurture their readers’ hobbies and interests. They publish across art, craft, wellbeing and transport categories. They are the current IPG Specialist Consumer Publisher of the Year. They have a relaxed and friendly working environment with very little hierarchy and all staff are encouraged to contribute ideas that might help in their success. The Role

They’re looking for an Editor to join their in-house content team on permanent full-time basis. The successful candidate will be primarily focused on the editorial project management of around a third of the publishing programme, which will encompass their expanding Practical Art list. Reporting to the Senior Commissioning Editor (Practical Art), the Editor will oversee all areas of the editorial process for their allocated titles, from initial planning meeting through to final book files. They will also work on additional tasks such as eBook project management and reprints, as well as providing editorial support to the sales and marketing teams for the creation of catalogues and sales materials.

They are a small team and outsource a substantial proportion of editorial work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Senior Commissioning Editor (Practical Art), the Editor will oversee all areas of the editorial process for their allocated titles, from initial planning meeting through to final book files.
  • EBook project management and reprints
  • Providing editorial support to the sales and marketing teams for the creation of catalogues and sales materials.
  • Commissioning of and regular liaison with freelance editors, proofreaders and indexers.
  • Coordinating schedules
  • Coordinating budgets, and editorial briefs.
  • Excellent organisation and communication skills are a must.

Skills and Qualifications

  • A passion for beautifully illustrated books and a commitment to editorial excellence.
  • A sound knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe InDesign.
  • The ability to be a team player who can collaborate effectively but also take ownership of their titles and their workload.
  • Excellent communication skills who can liaise with appropriate departments and external freelancers to ensure all expectations are met.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Good working knowledge of editorial project management processes.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in an equivalent editorial role.
  • Experience of Biblio (desirable but not essential).
  • An interest in or knowledge of practical art (desirable but not essential).
