About the role and what we’re looking for

This is an exciting opportunity for a customer focussed and enthusiastic front of house manager with strong communication, inter-personal and organisational skills to contribute towards the making this vibrant arts centre a key venue on the national stage.

When on duty for performances, classes, events or general building opening the duty manager, will be to be responsible for the full front of house operation of the arts centre, co-ordinating volunteers and operational staff and overseeing all contractors, performers and public to ensure the effective efficient and safe delivery of our services with the highest standards of customer care. Whilst on duty the post will be responsible for the building and its resources, to ensure the security and health and safety of the arts centre, its resources and users.

Main duties and responsibilities

Duty Management

• maintaining a high level of visibility when acting as duty manager, including being primary point of contact for the public accessing the arts centre and acting with the highest standards of customer care
• assisting in delivery of training for the volunteer staff including evacuation procedures, customer service and programme knowledge
• ensuring that at all times the Cornerstone staff and volunteer staff on duty work in line with the arts centre’s operating systems and procedures and legislative regulations, including health and safety, license requirements and box office operations
• when on duty ensuring the delivery of a timely and efficient ticket sales operation from the box office, including working as box office receptionist on occasion
• ensuring that all staff and volunteers operate to the highest standards of customer service
• overseeing box office, programme and merchandising sales when on duty, including having responsibility for the float and the collection, receipting and secure storage of monies
• when on duty to carry out fire safety checks, evacuation training sessions and Health and Safety checks, both front and back of house in accordance with the arts centre’s systems and procedures, to ensure a safe environment for all users of the venue
• ensuring that the public areas of the building are clean and clear at all times and all escape routes are fully accessible
• overseeing performers, tutors, artists, hirers and other visiting providers at the arts centre to ensure they carry out their services in line with our systems and procedures
• in line with duty manager, liaising with performers, artists and other users to ensure the timely, effective and safe delivery of their services, including cueing in and backstage services and adherence to arts centre risk assessments and health and safety policies
• responsibility for securing the building at the end of shifts and for unlocking the building prior to shifts where necessary and for the general security of the building when on duty
• effectively, efficiently and safely managing contractors accessing the arts centre during a duty shift
• when on duty, assisting the café manager deliver a smooth customer service including assisting with the café when operational demands are high
• being fully conversant with the conditions attached to the arts centre’s operating licenses, and with current regulations and legislation and to ensure that these are strictly adhered to at all times
• developing good working relationships with artists, arts groups and organisations, partners, stakeholders, funders and sponsors

This is an active duty management position where the post holders time is divided between duty management and desk work. The post holder will require great time management skills and will thrive in a busy environment.

• Enthusiasm and love for the arts
• High level of interest in Cornerstone and its activities

Your essential qualifications

• 3 ‘A’ levels or equivalent.
