Soufflet Malt have been at the Burton site since 2015 and operate 2 process lines producing in excess of 126,000 tonnes of quality malt into the brewing industry. The Burton site is part of the InVivo group which has 39 malting plants across the world.

Burton is a rapidly expanding site and which has an exciting future ahead. We pride ourselves on our safety, quality and the relationships with our customers who we supply with quality malt.

Due to our ongoing success and site expansion plans, we are seeking to appoint additional Dry Goods Operatives who will be responsible for the journey from barley to malt, seeing through the end to end process. This includes receiving the barley into long term storage, ensuring the barley remains at the right conditions throughout, by keeping to stringent storage standards at all times, in addition to conducting regular testings to ensure the grain is viable, moving the barley to our blending bins and blending as per instruction sheets and finally receiving malt after production ready for collection by the customer.

The ideal Dry Goods Operative will:

  • Have a proven aptitude and track record in dealing with mechanical equipment and machinery, specifically conveyors and elevators.
  • Be a driven and enthusiastic team player as well as comfortable working on their own initiative
  • Have a keen eye for detail and enjoys problem solving and fault finding - a knowledge of 5S would be desirable
  • Accurate testing, recording and labelling is key - therefore you must have excellent written & verbal communication skills & superb attention to detail, along with a pass grade in Maths and English GCSEs as a minimum
  • Does not mind working at height, in confined spaces and working with barley and malt - our environment can get dusty!
  • We don't mind if you do not have experience in food production, more than anything we are looking for someone who has a desire to develop their technical skills and has the right attitude to get the job done.

The role of Dry Goods Operative:

  • To receive Barley in a timely manner and then subsequently dry/screen the barley to long term storage
  • Monitor barley and malt whilst in storage
  • Bring barley from long term storage ready to go into the production process
  • Make sure CCP's are adhered to within the process.
  • Receive malt from the production process and move to storage following written instruction from the Dry Goods Manager or in his absence the QEHS Manager or Production Manager.
  • Prepare malt into loads ready for collection by the customer
  • Carrying out analytical tests whilst preparing loads.
  • Ensure accurate recording of the transfers and movements both on written paperwork and on computer
  • Performs cleaning to a high standard.

Working hours:

  • 42 hrs per week average over a 12 hour 4 on 4 off working pattern, with one set of night shifts in every four set of shifts.
