The Bank:

Job Purpose:

The primary responsibility of the role is to manage the credit relationship for customers classified as Watch and Recoveries. The aim is to return customers to good health, but where that is not practical to minimise provisions and maximise recoveries in as capital efficient manner as possible.

The job holder will lead credit discussions with customers and obtain credit approval for exposures from the relevant delegated authority. The role holder will be expected to manage individual larger cases when appropriate.

The role forms part of the second line of defence (2LOD) Business Support and Recoveries team and will share the common objectives:

  • To operate an effective second line credit risk management function which can demonstrate independence from the business units.
  • To ensure the relevant 2LOD units work collaboratively and constructively with the first line functions to deliver support for achievement of all business objectives whilst maintaining effective controls and optimising credit outcomes.

Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities:

  • Lead Watch and Recovery customer relationships whilst demonstrating a range of recovery and restructuring techniques across the portfolios to reduce risks and align portfolios to the risk appetite.
  • Visit customers to discuss the issues leading to the problem loan classification and develop appropriate strategies to address the concerns.
  • To make clear and supported credit recommendations to appropriate DA holders including loan restructuring where necessary. Monitor Management Information and over-see security and documentation requirements.
  • Develop strong, positive and open working relationships with the Bank’s key stakeholders.
  • Support the Managing Director Business Support to identify risk of impairment in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all conduct and compliance requirements are adhered to and are at the heart of the Bank’s approach.
  • Support the Managing Director Business Support to ensure risk appetite and operational targets for problem account management are achieved.
  • Identify lessons learned for feedback to the business units.
  • Maintain and manage pro-active and appropriate relationships with external suppliers.

Qualifications, Experience and Personal Qualities:

  • Significant experience in credit risk and workout roles in SME and corporate lending.
  • Experience gained across financial services and banking including Property Investment and Development Finance, Asset Finance and trading SME’s. Preference is this experience includes undertaking customer facing roles.
  • Extensive experience of working with senior executives and the ability to influence outcomes.
  • Strong awareness of the regulatory framework including Conduct and Compliance requirements.
  • Proven analytical skills with a strong working knowledge of risk control systems, processes and reporting.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage with clients who are facing stressed trading conditions.
  • Strong leadership capabilities with the ability to communicate effectively with both risk and front-line relationship teams.
  • Evidence of balanced and independent judgement with a proven ability to drive change.
