The individual will have Credit Officer level delegated authority and provide senior level review and challenge for leveraged finance related front office and loan capital markets credit applications, implementing the bank’s Risk Appetite Framework. 

Responsibilities: 

Credit & Underwriting Transactions

  • Review & authorise transactions in accordance with the Credit Officer Approval Authority Policy and Portfolio Management Rules, subject to the approval limits delegated from the Head of the Credit Department.
  • Analyse Credit Applications through provision of a challenge function to department assumptions and requests. 
    • At Early Read Meeting: Utilise credit knowledge in assessment of transactions, focusing on key issues and analysis of key risks.
    • Engage constructively with front office and loan capital markets teams in analysis of credit issues through interaction with various departments, review of key due diligence and appraisal of front office and loan capital markets Credit Applications.
    • Evaluate and challenge risks in legal documentation.
  • Whilst assessment of Underwriting requests including evaluation of risks, process and flex protection is the responsibility of the Underwriting Director, this position will provide insight as necessary taking account of in-depth knowledge of underlying credit.
  • Evaluate and propose credit strategy towards Net Take and Underwrite requests.
  • Lead Credit department team in provision of a credit assessment of transaction with presentation to senior management and leveraged finance Credit department approvers.
  • Enable the Credit department to be a reliable business partner to the Bank’s chosen client set.

Credit Portfolio Management

  • Manage requests and approvals arising from the leveraged loan and cross over corporate portfolio.
  • Review credit strategy towards individual customers through assessment and challenge of front office annual reviews and Special Credit Reviews.
  • Provide additional focus on all Warning and Special Credit obligors. Where appropriate, represent the Bank externally with legal / financial advisors and customers / private equity clients.
  • Review the obligor grade, facility grade, self-assessment result proposed by front office.
  • Review of quarterly self-assessment and provisioning for individual customers or credits.

Training and development

  • Develop and provide training to front office and leveraged finance Credit department on grading, legal documentation and credit analysis.
  • Support and develop AVP/VP team members including identification of development needs and on the job training.  Development of operational guides for team and interaction with external legal / financial advisors.

Knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Seasoned / experienced credit professional with commensurate lending experience leading and negotiating deals in a front office or credit role with knowledge of large cap and cross over corporate transactions.
  • Strong people skills. Ability to interact with and operate with the trust and respect of deal team leaders and senior management in the front office and loan capital markets team, as well as junior staff in the front office and the Credit department.
  • Degree level education and / or equivalent professional qualifications (ACA, ACCA, ACT, CFA, MBA) with longevity (8 years+) and experience at a high level in the financial sector.
  • Very strong numerical and financial skills with the ability to interpret financial information and review and interpret financial models including identification of drivers and potential errors.
