We are currently recruiting for a Development Underwriter on behalf of our client, one of the leading brands in the UK insurance market.

Joining an established and high performing team, you will help to lead the profitable growth of the Birmingham branch's Professions & Specialty Commercial business, at a time of exciting growth for the company.

Key Responsibilities

• Underwriting larger, more complex commercial cases consistently and profitably.
• Leading the setting and execution of the local underwriting strategy for your specialist area in conjunction with members of the senior management team.
• Influencing the UK Product Heads on underwriting appetite and strategy.
• Leading underwriting in your specialist area by taking referrals of more complex risks (possibly from outside the region).
• Leading underwriting and sales visits to larger clients and prospects.
• Ensuring that the target retention rate for the region is achieved, handling some cases yourself.
• Developing close, effective relationships with brokers, in order to develop new opportunities to significantly contribute to the team's new business targets.
• Increasing submission & conversion numbers through large client prospecting.
• Developing your reputation as an experienced underwriter within your region by your brokers.

Key Requirements

• Candidates must have previous experience in Professional Indemnity and/or Property & Casualty Underwriting.
• Strong communication, relationship management and interpersonal skills.
