Interim Deputy Assistant Director - HR & OD,  for the Greater London Authority

Do you want to work within City Hall and be amongst the key players of London politics. We are excited to be supporting the GLA, to secure a Deputy Assistant Director of HR & OD, to lead their People Function, providing strategic leadership on all HR and organisational development issues. 

This role is pivotal in ensuring the workforce is capable, agile, and equipped to meet their short, medium, and long-term objectives. The successful candidate will be instrumental in driving our equality, diversity, and inclusion agenda and representing the interests of the GLA, across various collaborations and partnerships.

Day to Day of the role:
  • Deputise for the Assistant Director of People Function, leading on all HR and organisational development issues - with a a particular focus on EDIB, Capability and Resoucing.
  • Develop and implement effective people strategies, plans, and policies for long-term organisational development.
  • Provide high-level advice and guidance on human resources management and organisational development.
  • Lead the development of a cohesive and agile performance-based culture, focusing on talent management and organisational change.
  • Develop and implement equalities, diversity, and inclusion policies, ensuring the organisation reflects London’s diverse population.
  • Lead the team responsible for Executive recruitment and Mayoral board appointments, advising on recruitment, governance, and processes.
  • Represent the organisation on human resources issues with external bodies, maximising benefits through participation and exchange of ideas.
  • Contribute to corporate management, participating in cross-departmental and organisational groups and task teams.
  • Manage resources in accordance with policies and ethical standards, and adapt to work flexibly as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) or equivalent strategic HR management experience.
  • Proven track record of leading HR and OD functions at a senior level in a high-profile and complex organisation.
  • Ability to operate in a political environment and gain credibility with senior stakeholders, including politicians.
  • Understanding of the Greater London Authority’s work.
  • Experience in developing and delivering staff engagement and organisational development programmes.
  • Successful track record in staff management and motivating teams, especially during organisational change.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and leading initiatives to improve workplace equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Benefits:
  • paying a day rate of £327.75 (pre AWR) and an Umbrella rate of £440.90 per day
  • Initial 3 month assignment whilst the GLA face a very busy time with the upcoming elections.
  • Hybrid role with 50% based in City Hall, Royal Docks.
