About the role
We are recruiting Dementia Advisers specifically to engage with the Diverse Communities of West Sussex in order to better support these communities with dementia services. We would therefore encourage applicants that can speak languages such as Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi , Gujarati to apply for this role.
The Dementia Adviser role requires you to work passionately to provide advice, support and guidance to people living with dementia and their family members/carers.
You will interact face to face, via telephone and virtually to give people the tools and knowledge to make informed decisions about their future.
You will build and establish good working relationships with external organisations to continue to increase reach and build inclusivity in these under-served communities where dementia information is evidenced to be less provided, including pre-diagnostic support.

- Offering a vital and compassionate advice service to support and guide carers of people living with dementia.
- Provide community based, face to face services for an increased level of support for more complex cases.
- Managing referrals, assisting carers in assessing their information and support needs in a person-centred manner.
- Providing knowledgeable and trusted information regarding services and benefits available and, where appropriate, assist carers in accessing them.
- Signposting carers to a choice of suitable other sources of help, where appropriate.
- Developing a proactive approach in reaching carers of people living with dementia who may not otherwise access our services.
We are hoping to welcome passionate Dementia Advisers to work in West Sussex within under-served communities. This is an amazing opportunity to have a rewarding career providing support and guidance to people living with dementia.
We are looking for:
- Someone who has working experience of assessing people face to face with an ability to assess their needs.
- Deliver advice and guidance with a non-judgmental approach and outstanding communication skills.
- Strong organisational and time management skills to manage your caseload of clients effectively.
- Good IT skills and be able to travel independently across West Sussex.
- An understanding of dementia and the needs of those living with dementia and their carers would be an advantage
- Able to speak an Asian language such as Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi, Gujarati.
- Previous experience of supporting /working within marginalised communities such as the south Asian community
