Our client, a highly regarded full service law firm in London, steeped in history, is looking to engage an experienced Data Protection Lawyer to join them on a non-exclusive consultancy arrangement for 2-3 days per week on an ongoing basis. The role is non-exclusive but also has the potential for permanency, if desired in due course.

Working closely with a Partner at the Firm, the successful Lawyer can expect to provide Data Protection advice to the firm's entire client base, including corporate clients, charities, family offices and landed estates.

Responsibilities could include:

  • Reviewing, drafting and advising on privacy documents such as Consent Forms, Privacy Standards, Data Protection Policies, Privacy Notices, Data Breach Policies and Data Retention Policies
  • Reviewing, drafting and advising on Data Sharing Agreements (both controller to controller agreements and data processor agreements)
  • Drafting cookie policies
  • Carrying out and advising on Legitimate Interest Assessments and Data Protection Impact Assessments
  • Advising in relation to data breaches, reporting obligations to the ICO and affected data subjects, recording keeping requirements, remediation and mitigation strategies
  • Advising on international transfers of data, including recent changes to Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) and potential impact of the Data Reform Bill
  • Advising on data subject access requests
  • Carrying out due diligence on UK GDPR compliance in relation to corporate transactions
  • Reviewing and advising on suppliers' terms and conditions
  • Advising on derogations and exemptions from the UK GDPR
  • Advising on the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), UK GDPR and electronic direct marketing

Due to the nature of the requirement, the successful Lawyer is likely to:

  • Be qualified in England & Wales
  • Possess upwards of 3 years' PQE in handling a full range of Data Protection matters
  • Have gained their experience from notable city firms or top tier regional teams
  • Be able to work with limited supervision
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding and interest in Data Protection and GDPR matters
  • Possess a keen eye for detail
  • Be interested in working on a consultancy or fractional basis

The firm operates a hybrid working policy, with full time Lawyers spending 2-3 days per week in the London office. It is likely that for the first 4 weeks, 100% office attendance will be required, to assist a smooth lead in.

There is the potential for permanency, or an increase in days per week, should this be desired by both parties in due course.
