Data Governance Manager - Outside IR35

We have a great contract opportunity for a Data Governance Manager to join a British Publishing, Business Intelligence and Events group on an 6 month contract.

Job Description

Our client are seeking a Data Governance (DG) professional with knowledge and experience in driving DG policies, principles and frameworks.

The DG Manager will be supporting & influencing the creation of a newly formed Data Capability and would be working in conjunction with the Executive Data Sponsor & supporting Technology Data Management Project to embed a data driven culture across Technology.

As this capability matures it is expected that further DG roles would be introduced, the DG Manager would be expected to manager any direct report

  • Responsible for defining the DG policies, principles, and frameworks for their domain and enabling business-embedded roles to translate these into business process specific DG standards
  • Typically reports to the Head of DG; however, in the absence of the Head, collaborates with the Executive Data Sponsor for direction and priorities for their subdomain

  • Executive Data Sponsor
  • DG managers across Data Domains
  • Other Data teams for collaborations, e.g., the Data Privacy Team and the Data Architecture Team etc
  • Sub Domain Owners
  • Business Process Data Owners
  • Operational Data Stewards

Key Areas of Responsibility/Accountability

  • Collaboration with Subdomain Data Owners and Business Process Data Owners to set and implement bespoke DG standards in their domain
  • Reinforcing and evangelising the link between business strategy/process and DG standards
  • Communicating, promoting and embedding the DG Strategy
  • Responsible for driving training and promoting awareness of DG for their specific domain
  • Providing SME support, agreeing processes, and facilitating ongoing communications across business processes within a domain
  • Creation of DG artefacts/templates to be implemented by Business Process Data Owners and used in business processes
  • Lead the creation and implementation of a DG training programme for business-embedded roles

Key Outputs and Outcomes

  • Development of Data Governance Culture across the Technology Domain
  • Responsible for driving training and promoting awareness of DG for their specific domain
  • Providing ongoing DG SME support, agreeing processes, and facilitating ongoing communications across business processes within a domain
  • Continual Refinement & iteration of Data Governance Principles, standards, metrics along with policy and processes

Demonstration of Success

  • Clear ownership of DG and the relevant decision making
  • Driving clear DG communications across the organisation
  • Alignment of DG framework with overall other data and business goals, resulting in positive impact on business outcome
  • Improvement of results in regular DG health checks

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be:

  • An individual with expert knowledge of DG's relevance and application with other data capabilities e.g., Data Architecture
  • A dedicated SME with in-depth knowledge and experience in DG strategy, frameworks, best practices, and their implementation
  • Dedicated experience working as a Data Governance Manager or Similar remit within Data Governance functions
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills to drive change within their data domain
