"If you take a keen interest in current affairs and the world around you, this is a superb opportunity to inherit a portfolio of high-profile clients who regularly make the evening news", says the Director of the Public Sector Division of one of the world’s largest insurance brokers.

With a client list spanning such bodies as Local Authorities, Police & Fire Services and National Parks, this is a fascinating niche within the corporate insurance arena, and one where your ability to craft and service a robust insurance programme will have far-reaching consequences.

Here, you will assume control of a portfolio of circa 20 Public Sector accounts based across Wales and South West England, and gain a thorough grounding in the nuances of the sector - such as the tender processes of such bodies. You will be assisted in the day-to-day management of clients with the support of a dedicated team of Public Sector Insurance Account Handlers, but you’ll take the lead in controlling the portfolio; designing programmes, broking risks in line with public sector tender processes, and managing relationships with all stakeholders. Whilst this is not a new business role, you will be expected to attend industry events and network with your contemporaries.

Previous exposure to Public Sector accounts is not a prerequisite, and we welcome applications from both Commercial and Corporate Account Executives, as well as from other areas of insurance such as Claims and Underwriting. However, you must have a detailed knowledge of the main commercial classes such as Property, Liability and associated covers. Given the trading style of Public Sector bodies, this is quite a 'process heavy’ role, so it is essential that you are extremely well-organised, diligent and meticulous in your approach. You should have excellent communication skills, and be comfortable building professional rapport with high profile stakeholders, as well as producing high quality rapports and documentation. You must also have a genuine curiosity in current affairs, and pride yourself on keeping abreast of developments within the Public Sector and 'news in general.’

In return, you will receive a competitive basic salary that is entirely negotiable, together with a generous bonus which can very realistically be between £10K - £20K per annum. In addition, you’ll have a company car, and a market-leading flexible benefits package (including 12% pension, DIS, CIC & dental etc) that can be tweaked to your own personal circumstances. You will also receive support towards professional qualifications, if desired.
