Job Title: Construction Quantity Surveyor

Location: Near Bedford MK43

Salary: £45,000 - £60,000 depending on experience

Position Overview: They are seeking a skilled and experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in managing costs and ensuring the financial efficiency of their construction projects. As QS, you will work within the Commercial Team and work closely with site managers, architects, engineers, and contractors to accurately estimate costs, monitor budgets, and optimize project profitability.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Cost Estimation: Prepare detailed cost estimates for tendering on construction projects, considering materials, labour, plant, equipment, and other relevant factors.
  2. Budget Management: Monitor project budgets throughout the construction process, identifying and addressing any deviations or cost overruns.
  3. Procurement: Assist in the procurement process by obtaining competitive bids from subcontractors and suppliers, evaluating proposals, and negotiating contracts.
  4. Value Engineering: Collaborate with project teams to identify opportunities for value engineering and cost-saving measures without compromising quality.
  5. Quantity Take-offs: Conduct accurate quantity take-offs and measurements from construction drawings and specifications.
  6. Contract Administration: Review and administer contracts, including change orders, claims, and variations, to ensure compliance with contractual agreements.
  7. Cost Control: Implement effective cost control measures to optimize project profitability while maintaining quality standards.
  8. Risk Management: Identify potential risks and uncertainties that may impact project costs and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  9. Reporting: Prepare timely and accurate reports on project costs, budgets, and financial performance for management review.
  10. Collaboration: Work collaboratively with project teams to support the successful delivery of construction projects on time and within budget.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Professional certification (e.g., RICS, CIOB) is desirable.
  • Groundworks knowledge desirable.
  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor in the construction industry, with a strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and costs.
  • Proficiency in quantity takeoff software (e.g., Bluebeam, PlanSwift) and cost estimating software (e.g., CostX, WinEst).
  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Sound knowledge of contract law and construction contracts.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Microsoft Project, Primavera) is an asset.
