Hours:                                   40 hours, Monday – Friday. This role is office and site based

As a Construction Carbon Manager at London Gatwick, you'll be a pivotal part of London Gatwick's journey towards Net Zero. The airport is committed to Net Zero direct emissions by 2030 –  a very ambitious objective, driven by our shareholders and with the full backing of our business. This role will help tackle the indirect and construction related emissions, further demonstrating that commitment to sustainability across all aspects of its operations and growth.  

In this role you will have the opportunity to bring your experience in carbon accounting and management to a client organisation, and really drive the carbon reduction agenda; establishing standards and direction across £multi-million projects.  This isn't just about calculations and reports, you'll be able to bring your technical knowledge and really shape how Gatwick develops in the future.

The role

Reporting into the Construction Sustainability Lead, you'll be the lead expert on reducing carbon across construction projects at Gatwick. Keeping track of the latest innovations and trends in the industry, you'll advise teams across our business, ensuring our projects are better for the environment and helping us to achieve our strategic carbon reduction goals. 

At Gatwick you will have the opportunity and autonomy to work in a live environment, and make tangible differences to the how construction project are delivered in the future.

Other duties include:

  • Developing, maintaining and delivering a robust carbon management system, certified to PAS2080:2023, enhancing and improving the existing project governance framework.
  • Engaging relevant stakeholders and driving improvements within project delivery.
  • Supporting the wider construction and development team, providing training and upskill opportunities to widen sustainability understanding and delivery within each individual role.
  • Supporting carbon reduction opportunities, initiatives and working groups – providing guidance and research as appropriate.
  • Providing technical input into scope documents & requirements, followed by review of, and assurance against, carbon (GHG) assessments and related deliverables provided by designers and contractors.
  • Managing the implementation of the ‘Carbon Reduction Roadmap for Construction Projects' and associated actions and projects, developments and improvements from inception to completion.


What are we looking for?

The live environment at London Gatwick requires all our teams to have a flexible and adaptable approach, with problem solving skills and an innovative outlook. Involved in projects from inception to completion you will work alongside multiple stakeholders. In addition, this role requires:

  • We're open on your background but you'll likely have a background in engineering, science or environmental studies.
  • You'll be able to demonstrate robust carbon/GHG technical skills including the compilation of bespoke models / tools and emission inventories and associated experience in carbon accounting and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
  • You'll have deep knowledge of climate change and wider sustainability topics. Examples could include decarbonisation over the life cycle of projects, resource efficiency, circular economy, design for durability, deconstruction and re-use, sustainability and low carbon materials, renewable energy & alternative fuels, sustainable solutions
  • You'll have experience delivering and/or working to PAS2080 Carbon Management in infrastructure – whether in house or in a consultancy environment.
  • Experience in developing work in collaboration with other stakeholders, coupled with excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills.
