Job Title: Construction Buyer

Location: Near Bedford MK43

Company Overview: Our client Excelsior Land Limited is a family run leading construction firm dedicated to delivering high-quality projects in a timely and efficient manner. They specialise in low carbon, MMC residential schemes and every project they undertake focuses on reducing our environmental impact throughout the build process as well as for the occupants when the projects are complete. With a commitment to excellence and a focus on client satisfaction, they are seeking a skilled Construction Buyer to join their team and contribute to the success of their projects.

Salary: £30,000 - £45,000 depending on experience

Job Description: As a Construction Buyer, you will be responsible for procuring materials, plant, equipment, and services necessary for their construction projects. You will play a crucial role in ensuring that their projects remain on schedule and within budget by sourcing high-quality materials at competitive prices. You will work within the Commercial Team and collaborate closely with site managers, subcontractors, and suppliers to fulfill project requirements while maintaining a strong commitment to quality and compliance with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Source and procure construction materials including all groundworks materials, plant, equipment, and services according to project requirements and specifications.

  2. Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure timely delivery of materials and services.

  3. Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts with suppliers to obtain the best value for the company.

  4. Coordinate with the QS’s, Project Planners and Site Managers to understand project timelines and material needs, ensuring that materials are ordered and delivered on schedule.

  5. Monitor inventory levels and manage stock levels to prevent shortages and excess inventory.

  6. Conduct market research to stay informed about industry trends, pricing, and availability of materials.

  7. Evaluate supplier performance and address any issues or concerns to ensure quality and reliability.

  8. Create purchase orders and work closely with the finance department to track costs, process invoices, and reconcile purchase orders.

  9. Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements related to procurement activities.

  10. Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements within the procurement function.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Proven experience as a Construction Buyer or similar role in the construction industry.

  • Knowledge of groundworks material buying desirable

  • Strong knowledge of construction materials, equipment, and suppliers.

  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.

  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Attention to detail and accuracy in procurement processes.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Familiarity with construction contracts and regulations is preferred.

  • Certification in procurement or supply chain management is a plus.

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Construction Management, or a related field is a plus.
