The Company:
Northern Powergrid owns and operates the network that distributes electricity to homes and businesses across the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire. Employing over 2,500 people, the business has 8 million customers and supplies 3.9 million properties via 60,000 miles of overhead powerlines and underground cables.

The business are looking to expand their Comms department with several roles to provide proactive content across Northern Powergrid's channels that meet the communication priorities.  This is an exciting opportunity with the chance to work autonomously, with creative freedom and with a targeted approach to drive the brand forward.

Northern Powergrid are seeking candidates with a proactive mindset with the appetite to seek content within the community, push boundaries and deliver innovative and groundbreaking content.

The Role:
•    Produce engaging and diverse PR content (imagery, infographics, video, audio and content) for promotion across Northern Powergrid’s website and organic social media channels.
•    Deliver a creative, targeted external PR and campaigns through effective reactive and proactive communications and sponsorship opportunities.
•    Generate proactive news releases and engaging with local, national and trade media to secure coverage.
•    Responding to escalated media enquiries, drafting statements, engaging with media and briefing company spokespeople for media engagements.
•    Supporting the delivery of consistent branding across Northern Powergrid’s external communications including updating existing materials and creating new corporate content.
•    Supporting the PR & Campaigns Manager by representing Northern Powergrid on energy industry communications and campaign groups, as appropriate.
•    Monitoring and reviewing the effectiveness of external communications channels, including the corporate website. 
•    Provide out of hours support for communications as a participant of the response/recovery team to deliver effective communications in major incidents and take part in the out of hours rota.

This role can be based from Castleford or Newcastle offices.
The Person:
  • Minimum of two years media management and/or PR campaign delivery experience.
  • Ability to manage complex media issues with reputational implications for Northern Powergrid.
  • Highly developed writing and content production skills including social media, video and audio. 
  • Creative skills to develop content that influences, informs and engages media, customers and other key stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills including experience of building effective working relationships with colleagues as well as the managing media and external agencies.
  • Experienced and confident communicating with senior leaders.
  • Capable of managing comprehensive workload to tight deadlines, under pressure.
  • Full valid UK driving license.
