Civils Estimator

Our client is a leading railway contractor specialising in delivering railway infrastructure projects. More recently, they have opened a specialist Civils division within the company and require an experienced Estimator to join the fast-growing team.

The successful candidate would be the sole Estimator for the division, and would price for works on drainage, walkways, concrete slabs, earthworks, ducting and troughing etc.

Ideally, you will have at least 5 years' experience Estimating for Civils/Rail projects either in the rail sector or general civils. Work is UK wide so there would be requirement for travel.

Position Overview - Civils Estimator

• Conduct thorough analyses of project specifications, drawings, and other relevant documentation to understand project requirements.
• Prepare accurate cost estimates for civil engineering activities related to railway infrastructure projects.
• Utilise estimating software and tools to perform quantity take-offs and cost calculations.
• Liaise with suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors to obtain competitive pricing for materials, equipment, and services required for project execution.
• Collaborate with the engineering and project management teams to identify value engineering opportunities and cost-saving measures without compromising project quality or safety standards.
• Prepare comprehensive and detailed cost estimates, including breakdowns of labour, materials, equipment, and overhead costs.
• Present cost estimates and proposals to clients and stakeholders in a clear and professional manner.
• Participate in bid meetings, negotiations, and tender processes as required.
• Stay abreast of industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory requirements related to civil engineering and railway construction.

Position Requirements - Civils Estimator

• Proven experience as an Estimator within the railway construction industry or general civils.
• In-depth knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, and construction techniques.
• Proficiency in using estimating software and tools.
• Strong analytical and numerical skills with meticulous attention to detail.
• Ideally 5 years + experience estimating civils/rail projects.
• Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
