Salary: £38,931 - £46,578 per annum plus welcome bonus and annual retention bonus.

We are looking for dedicated Social Workers to join our Referral and Assessment team and contribute to the welfare of children by fulfilling the authority’s responsibilities under the Children Act 1989 and other relevant legislation. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about child protection and has experience in children’s social care.

Day to Day of the role:

  • Assess and provide services to children in need within the framework of legislation, regulations, and departmental procedures.
  • Liaise with various stakeholders including other divisions, NHS trusts, schools, carers, and voluntary sector providers to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
  • Maintain high standards of professional practice and promote such practices within the team and division.
  • Manage a caseload of children and families, undertake core assessments, implement child protection and Looked After Children (LAC) procedures, and facilitate the provision of services.
  • Work within the Borough’s child protection guidelines to undertake investigations, provide reports for case conferences, and give evidence in court when required.
  • Contribute to care plans for Looked After Children and ensure adherence to procedural requirements.
  • Make recommendations regarding financial expenditure for care plans and undertake delegated financial responsibilities.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and maintain knowledge of changes in departmental procedures, legislation, and professional practice.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Social Care.
  • Registration with Social Work England or ability to obtain registration prior to commencement of employment.
  • Experience in children and families social work within a statutory, voluntary, or independent sector organisation.
  • Knowledge of the Children Act 1989, the 2004 Children Act Amendment, and other relevant legislation and guidance.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member and form professional partnerships.
  • Strong assessment and analytical skills, with the ability to formulate, implement, and review intervention programmes.
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Effective time management skills to meet professional priorities and administrative requirements.
  • Understanding, knowledge, and skills in valuing diversity.
  • Must have a current driving licence and use of own car/vehicle for business purposes.
