Catering Assistant

Opus People Solutions are currently recruiting Catering Assistants on behalf of our Client, Telford and Wrekin Council.

Are you passionate about encouraging healthy eating in schools and clean and safe dining environment for the pupils within the schools of the Telford and Wrekin areas?

Job Purpose:
You will assist the Catering Supervisor in promoting school meals and increasing uptake through theme days, parent lunches, parent evenings, and tasting sessions. You will encourage pupils to try new foods and maintain a healthy diet. You will support in develop and promote services in conjunction with the Catering Supervisor.

Hourly Rate: £11.59 per hour
Shift Times: Monday - Friday, 12:00pm - 14:00pm & 11:30am - 13:30pm Note: Additional time is required to allow for changing before and after the shift.
Dress Code:
Candidates to wear all black, safety shoes, hat (to get changed on site before & after shift for hygiene reasons).
No jewellery (only a simple wedding band allowed), no nail polish, no fake nails, no make up

Experience and Requirements:

  • Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate
  • Enhanced DBS, we will be happy to process this for you if you do not already have one!
  • Driving Licence and access to your own vehicle is beneficial, not essential!
  • Good standard of education and catering experience.
  • NVQ Level 1 - Food Preparation.
  • Some experience in a similar role would be beneficial.
  • Experience in food production.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations.


Insight to your Day-To-Day tasks:

  • Assist the Catering Supervisor in the operation of the designated unit, including the production and serving of meals.
  • Perform general kitchen and dining room duties.
  • Wash up and clean the kitchen during and after service, ensuring compliance with Food Hygiene and Health and Safety Legislation.
  • Set up the dining room, tables, and service trolleys.
  • Clean and tidy the dining room after service.
  • Ensure safe storage of food provisions and record temperature checks.
  • Attend training courses to enhance skills.
  • Order provisions and materials in the absence of the Catering Supervisor, following Council policy.
  • Assist with the collection and recording of dinner money, record on the Catering Management system, handle banking, and complete documentation in line with Council policy.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures, complying with Food Safety Legislation.
