Job Title: Cash and Banking Assistant (Maternity Cover)

Contract Type: Fixed-Term Contract (9-10 months)

Working Hours: Part-Time (4 days per week)

Salary: £30,000 - £33,000 pro rata

We are currently seeking a Cash and Banking Assistant to join our client's finance team on a maternity cover basis. As a part-time role, you will be working 4 days per week for 9-10 months FTC. Reporting to the Cash and Banking Manager, you will be responsible for processing daily cash transactions accurately and in a timely manner.

As a Cash and Banking Assistant, you will provide support to the manager with more complex daily and weekly tasks. This role also involves carrying out some weekly Accounts Payable tasks in collaboration with the Accounts Payable Supervisor. You will work closely with a team of twenty finance professionals.

Key Responsibilities:
* Downloading and posting daily bank and credit card transactions to the finance system
* Allocating and matching receipts/payments to customer/supplier accounts
* Investigating and resolving any issues related to unallocated cash
* Conducting daily and monthly bank reconciliations, including resolving any discrepancies
* Performing credit card account reconciliations and resolving any discrepancies
* Preparing and discussing the daily cash tracker with the Cash and Banking Manager
* Resolving queries from the business and other finance colleagues in a timely manner
* Assisting with process improvements in the Cash and Banking function
* Supporting the Accounts Payable Supervisor with supplier invoice processing, payment processing, and account maintenance on a weekly basis

Required Skills and Experience:
* Previous experience working in a banking or treasury team
* Strong understanding of banking processes, payment authorizations, and cash allocation
* Experience with bank account reconciliations
* Proactive and problem-solving mindset
* Keenness to develop accounting knowledge
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills
* Attention to detail and accuracy
* Intermediate level Excel proficiency

Desirable Skills and Experience:
* Part-qualified accountant
* Experience with accounting packages such as Agresso
* Familiarity with banking systems like RBS and payment service providers like Stripe

Success Measures:
* Fully reconciled bank balances at month-end
* Accurate allocation of daily cash receipts to customer accounts and invoices
* Reduction in unallocated cash balances over time
* Prompt response to business queries and adherence to month-end deadlines
* Familiarity with Agresso and other systems/processes within the first month
* Effective escalation of issues to prevent unresolved items from aging
* Accurate processing of supplier invoices, payments, and account maintenance
