As Care and Support Team Leader, your role will be to provide a responsive, respectful, reliable, and resourceful care and support service to vulnerable older people within an extra care service. This includes providing support, care, and activities to customers, involving family, carers, and other agencies to meet their changing needs.

You will also be supervising care staff through observation and discussion to competently undertake care and support activities in a dignified and compassionate manner. You will ensure that the quality of care and support is appropriate to all needs of the individuals including working on shift with staff. You will be auditing, observing, and assessing competence and compliance of individuals and systems and ensure good quality assurance.

Key Responsibilities

  • To deliver a respectful, responsive, reliable & resourceful service to residents, their families and other stakeholders at all times
  • To lead day to day activity of care staff, ensuring that the quality of care is appropriate to the needs of individuals (physical, social, cultural, mental and emotional) and that needs assessments, care plans and risk assessments are followed working within organisation policies and procedures
  • To ensure that care staff are inducted and work to agreed care plans regarding individual residents in line with relevant policies and procedures and CQC standards are met
  • Ensure that a stimulating, welcoming and safe environment is maintained, the rights of residents are respected and that they are allowed to take appropriate risks promoting independence and freedom of choice & flexibility
  • To develop and review individual care and support plans with residents, families and staff ensuring that they are of a high standard, developed with the customer and agreed outcomes are achieved
  • To ensure that all records are maintained and kept up to date
  • To carry out checks and audits, report repairs or health and safety issues to minimize risks to residents and staff
  • Ensure all paper and electronic administrative systems are implemented effectively, using IT systems as directed
  • Effectively communicate with residents, families and staff across Octavia
  • Ensure residents are encouraged to reach their optimum level of independence and assist residents who need support regularly, including activities, meals, washing, shopping, and medication in accordance with their care and support plan
  • Liaise with Adult Social Care, day care and voluntary sector providers, health workers, Voluntary organisations and other professionals to support customers needs
  • To report and record appropriate information concerning residents; participate in the Investigation of any complaints and feedback results
  • To ensure that the confidentiality and dignity of all residents is respected
  • To ensure the emotional and physical well-being of all residents; ensuring assistance with personal care needs and health supervision is provide
  • To respond to calls from residents throughout the day and attend to any emergency that arises whilst on duty and take adequate steps to ensure residents lives are safeguarded
  • To be part of management team to ensure adequate staff resourcing to deliver services at all times and cover in the absence of other staff as necessary

Requirements

Experience

  • A track record of delivering high quality care & support services to people (including those with complex needs
  • Leading, supervising, mentoring more junior and new staff
  • Safeguarding vulnerable people, following Health and Safety and legal requirements in a care and support setting
  • Awareness of needs of older people and/or those with dementia, mental health, disability or learning difficulties and understanding needs (physical, social, cultural and emotional

Knowledge

  • A good base of job-related skill and experience. Ability to apply this effectively on the job; collecting and analysing information; being aware of what is going on in the organisation
  • Current good practice in care and the principles of dignity, privacy, independence, choice and fulfilment
  • Safeguarding vulnerable people, following Health and Safety and legal requirements in a care and support setting
  • Awareness of needs of older people and/or those with dementia, mental health, disability or learning difficulties and understanding needs (physical, social, cultural and emotional)

Qualifications / Skills

  • Good standard of general education, including GCSEs in Maths and English (or comparable)
  • QCF Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care (or equivalent)
  • An NVQ / QCF Diploma Level 3 in Health and Social Care (or will work towards this qualification) within 18 months of starting
  • This role provides regulated activities under the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). therefore, post holders are required to undertake a regular DBS check to ensure anyone who presents a known risk is prevented from working with vulnerable people
  • Ability to undertake manual handling tasks
