The job you will do:

  • Investigate, evaluate, and introduce new suppliers.
  • Action technical enquiries by providing price and availability to the Costing Team so that they can respond to requests for a quotation from customer / prospective customers
  • Procure materials to meet sample and production requirements.
  • Material must meet the customers specification, ensuring materials are purchased in accordance with business quality, cost, and delivery requirements.
  • Ensure effective communication channels are used and relationships are built and maintained between Buyer and the supply base, as well as internally on site
  • Ensure material booking in & out procedures are adhered to.
  • Ensure all stock is subjected to regular PI counts in line with current procedure and sufficient to meet external audit requirements.
  • Ensure accurate stock, WIP and finished goods levels are maintained.
  • Ensure all suppliers reject material is processed through the MRP system and goods are prepared for return to the supplier, as necessary.
  • Ensure stock adjustment procedures are maintained and controlled through authorized personnel.
  • Ensure correct allocation of goods in and stores resources in line with requirements.
  • Ensure that fittings are effectively and cost effectively procured and available to production when required.
  • Maintain and improve the control mechanisms for parts used in production (including effective supplier reject management).
  • Ensure that company inventory records (including parts used in production, WIP and Finished Goods) are of the highest integrity using perpetual inventory (PI) procedures.
  • Gather in comparable quotes for other goods and services for the site.
  • Ensure supplier purchase orders & schedules are issued in line with manufacturing and customer requirements (MRP or Kanban demand triggers).
  • Try to anticipate supplier difficulties, taking appropriate action to prevent shortages.
  • Ensure purchase records are updated and maintained correctly, keeping track of unplaced requisitions to prevent delays.
  • Manage the contracts for Uniform, workwear, PPE, and welfare services such as sanitary bins, sharps disposal etc.
  • Taking requests from personnel for replacement items, arranging repairs / replacement garments and in conjunction with Health and Safety, ensure suitable and sufficient PPE is ordered and stocks maintained.
  • Control and reduce costs from defective suppliers, advising them immediately of discrepancies, ensuring the replacement of rejected items speedily.
  • Raise schedules on specific suppliers and ensure necessary constituent parts are issued.
  • Investigate and advise on possible sources of shortages.
  • Assist all departments with queries, i.e. order numbers for advice notes, accounts queries.

About you:

  • You will have some degree of engineering knowledge ideally.
  • Ideally you will be CIPS Qualified, but this is not essential.
  • Extensive experience in a similar role, ideally in the manufacturing / engineering industry
  • Supplier appraisal skills
  • Intermediate / advanced experience working within MRP systems.
  • Experience of SAP
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Must be diplomatic, with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Adept at negotiating
  • Must be prepared to work out of normal hours if required by the needs of the business, eg stock take may fall on a weekend.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with all departments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
