Nigel Wright is delighted to be support a leading engineering business in the North East of England as they look to recruit a BDM to focus on the rail sector. 

Role
Reporting into the GM, you will be tasked with addressing the needs of train manufacturers, train operators and the train owners,  leveraging the  existing market position and products in development for next generation solutions.  Our client is an established, market leader within the rail sector and  this is a fantastic opportunity to drive the business forward in their next stage of growth.

As a Business Development Manager you will be fundamental in creating innovative, high-value solutions that meet clients' business needs and high expectations. Your drive, business acumen and market knowledge will inform your ability to identify and pursue opportunities in the rail sector, both in the UK and worldwide.

Key areas of responsibility will inlcude:

  • Working closely with the GM , providing input into the sales strategy and business plan for the the rail business.
  • Achieving sales and profitability  targets for the business.
  • Involved in tendering for strategic projects
  • Identifying the challenges that your client is facing and defining relevant solutions.
  • Working closely with the internal delivery teams to create the right solution for a particular client need.
  • Taking responsibility for analysing and forecasting new business and revenues to support both the long-term client relationship as well as achieving in-year financial objectives
  • Actively build and continue to develop an excellent network within the target customer base.

Experience
  • You will have a good knowledge of the current and projected UK Rail infrastructure programmes, with a stakeholder network to match in Network Rail, the "roscos", the TOCs, and train builders.
  • You will understand the innovation and R&D challenges inherent in delivering safe, efficient and reliable solutions to the rail industry.
  • Commercially astute with the ability to estimate the financial impact of an opportunity, both with the client and internally, experienced in drafting quotations for client submission and adept in handling client contract negotiations.
  • A strong and confident team player, with demonstrable experience of architecting solutions and selling services to meet the client need into the engineering sector.
  • Excellent presentation skills, well organised and credible at a senior level.
  • Candidates will ideally be based within commutable distance of the site in the NE of England.
