A big-hitting global legal firm is looking for a commercial and ambitious individual with a proven track record working as a business development professional to join its dynamic business development team, to take responsibility for the provision of strategic business development support to their London Equity Capital Markets practice.

The firm’s highly regarded business development, marketing and communications team is integral to the setting and achievement of the firm’s business objectives, which includes supporting partners and associates in their pursuit of becoming clients’ trusted advisers, building and maintaining long-lasting, deep institutional client relationships, winning new clients, increasing the visibility of the firm globally and positioning the firm as the thought leader and most advanced law firm among the global elite. The function works as one team across the globe with very close collaboration between the central groups, such as communications and events, and the professionals working in local offices, practice groups, sectors and clients. The London Equity Capital Markets team is a key product within the firm’s London Corporate practice group and is strategically important to the firm. The role will require a 'hands-on’ approach to marketing and BD and a deftness in achieving results through detailed work and in building relationships and influence within the practice will be essential to success. Main duties will include carrying out market and client research to support business planning activities and identify opportunities, taking the lead role in preparing proposals, pitch presentations and credentials statements, coaching partners on their proposals and ensuring the team follows best practice, and coordinating client targeting efforts across the ECM group. On the marketing side, the Business Development Manager will lead the directory and award submissions processes, manage client events and hospitality and shape and deliver market-facing campaigns to raise the profile of the group.

Proactive, creative and tenacious, the ideal candidate will have substantial relevant business development and marketing experience at Manager level within a professional services organisation, to include demonstrable success in working with the management of individual practice or service lines and a proven track record of the end to end management of pitches and of achieving product-line business objectives. With a high attention to detail and strong client focus, the Business Development Manager will enjoy working to deadlines, juggling multiple projects and delivering under pressure, and will require excellent communication and persuasion skills in order to motivate fee-earners to deliver business goals. Enthusiasm to develop an in-depth understanding of the ECM practice, in terms of the market, the key players, the competition, and structures and approaches involved in this area is essential, whilst any previous ECM and Regulatory experience would be highly advantageous.
