Bookkeeper

We are seeking a dedicated Bookkeeper to join a construction company as the sole member of the accounts team. This is a temporary assignment that requires immediate availability. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing all bookkeeping activities, ensuring accurate financial records up to the trial balance stage, and handling payroll responsibilities.

• Maintain accurate financial records and prepare accounts up to the trial balance stage.
• Manage all aspects of payroll, including processing payments, deductions, and dealing with queries.
• Ensure compliance with Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) regulations and submissions.
• Handle accounts payable and receivable, including invoice processing and reconciliation.
• Conduct bank reconciliations and maintain cash flow management.
• Prepare VAT returns and ensure timely submissions.
• Liaise with external auditors, accountants, and other financial stakeholders as required.
• Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to improve efficiency.

• Proven experience as a Bookkeeper, preferably within the construction industry.
• Familiarity with Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) and its application in payroll and accounting.
• Proficiency in accounting software and strong Excel skills.
• Ability to manage payroll and perform all tasks up to the trial balance independently.
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work autonomously.
• AAT qualification or equivalent is desirable.
