My client based in Essex is looking for an experienced Band 7 Blood Sciences Biomedical Scientist for a locum contract, starting as soon as possible.

Requirements:

  • We require a state registered BMS with at least 3 years post registration specialist experience within the Haematology & BT department
  • The candidate will be required to lone work, so previous experience covering BT and Haematology is essential
  • They will be required to perform routine blood grouping using the analyser and manual techniques
  • Issue blood products
  • Perform / read Kleihauers
  • Perform DATs and antibody panels - with understanding of any product requirements which need to be considered
  • Book in samples using the Winpath system for Haematology & BT
  • Perform FBC and coagulation analysis in Haematology
  • Examination of blood films
  • Perform sickle screens and malarial parasites
  • Phone abnormal results to requestor
  • Manage all emergency work that arrives during the shift
  • Load analysers and replenish reagents
  • Run control material and trend
  • Taking correct action in the event of control failure
  • Liaise with clinical and lab staff in accordance with trust OAK values
