Doncaster Council is looking for a dedicated Best Interest Assessor to join our Adults, Wellbeing and Culture team. This role is crucial in safeguarding the rights and dignity of individuals who lack the capacity to make certain decisions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in social work and a thorough understanding of the Mental Capacity Act 2005.

Day to Day of the role:
  • Conduct statutory assessments as part of the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) process in accordance with the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and associated case law.
  • Undertake various assessments including Mental Capacity Assessment, Age Assessment, No Refusals Assessment, and Best Interests Assessment.
  • Collaborate with Independent Mental Capacity Advocates (IMCA) and relevant person’s representatives (RPR) as necessary.
  • Explore alternative less restrictive management arrangements and make professional recommendations.
  • Perform Best Interest Assessments for out-of-area cases under multi-agency arrangements.
  • Contribute to internal training and support the implementation of the service’s Quality and Performance Monitoring Cycle.
  • Provide support and guidance on MCA and DoLS related issues, including joint working on complex cases.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Qualification as an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP), social worker, occupational therapist, nurse, or chartered psychologist with a Best Interests Assessor qualification.
  • Registration with the relevant professional body.
  • Experience in undertaking Best Interests Assessments for a Supervisory Body.
  • Experience working across various health and/or social care disciplines.
  • Advanced knowledge of relevant legislation, including DoLS, Mental Health Act 1983, and Mental Capacity Act 2005.
  • Up-to-date Best Interest Assessor refresher training/CPD.
