Location: Blandford
Salary: £11.85 - £13.43 per hour
Start date: Immediately

Are you a resilient and confident individual with a passion for making a positive impact on students' lives? GSL Education have an exciting opportunity for a Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant for Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Blandford.

This PRU school is designed to support students who have been removed from mainstream education, with the goal of helping them reintegrate successfully. We cater to mainly behaviour-related issues, but also extend our support to emotionally and/or vulnerable students who have been out of education for an extended period. The smaller class sizes, typically ranging from 6 to 8 students, create an environment where personalised attention and tailored interventions are possible.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide support and assistance to students with diverse needs, including those with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with the teaching staff to implement strategies to address behavioural challenges.
  • Engage students in activities that promote social, emotional, and academic development.

Ideal Candidate: GSL Education is seeking a confident and outgoing individual, akin to the qualities found in sports coaches. The ideal candidate will possess the following attributes:
  • The ability to remain composed and focused in challenging situations.
  • A self-assured demeanour to effectively engage and motivate students.
  • Understanding the unique challenges of each student and providing support accordingly.
  • Prepared to handle challenging behaviours, including verbal aggression, without reacting emotionally.

Additional Information:
  • Experience with smaller class sizes, ensuring a more personalised approach.
  • Please be aware that the unit operates with relatively low funding as we fall under the Local Authority.
  • The role may involve being sworn at and receiving personal comments; therefore, a resilient and composed approach is essential.
  • Despite the challenges, the rewards of this role are immense. You have the opportunity to make a real and lasting difference in the lives of students who need it the most.

If you are looking for a rewarding opportunity to contribute to the positive development of young individuals and possess the qualities mentioned above, we encourage you to apply. To apply, please send your resume and a cover letter outlining your relevant experience and why you are a suitable candidate for this role. Looking forward to welcome a dedicated individual to the team who shares the commitment to transforming the lives of students through education.

To work with GSL Education, you should:
  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last 2 years.
  • Have a DBS registered to the update service or be happy to apply for one with GSL Education
