Job Title: Research Scientist - Automation in biosciences

Vacancy type: Permanent

Salary: £25,000 - 38,000 per annum

Location: North East

SRG is currently working with a very well-established organisation, which is responsible for technical innovations across the UK in different scientific sectors including pharmaceuticals and biologics. They are looking to recruit a Research Scientist to join their Automation team.

The successful candidate will have expertise in automation applied to biosciences, especially in the use of liquid handling robots and in the creation of complex novel workflows with them. Candidates should understand or demonstrate curiosity in the science related to the formation of drug delivery systems and/?or lipid nanoparticle systems. The successful individual will apply their expertise to address formulation challenges, developing and optimizing drug delivery systems for RNA vaccines and therapeutics.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Write, optimise and review workflows for automation project work.
  • Support the technical delivery of new automation platforms for the production and characterisation of formulations in line with the business strategy.
  • Plan and deliver technical programmes of work on automation platforms and high throughput equipments.
  • Support the maintenance, calibration, safety, and quality, for the effective running of automation platforms.

Role requirements:

Successful candidates will be educated to a minimum of HNC, Foundation Degree, Degree, or master's degree level (or equivalent) in a biosciences relevant discipline (e.g., chemistry/?biochemistry/?biology/?pharmaceutical) plus (significant) relevant industrial experience;

  • The production/?characterisation of (lipid) nanoparticles.
  • Advanced drug delivery systems (such as vehicles for mRNA transfection).
  • Use of liquid handling robots (e.g., Opentron, Janus, Hamilton systems) and writing workflows to control them.

Desired experience:

  • Have a technical understanding of (or direct experience in) the production/?characterisation of lipid nanoparticle formulations and/?or novel drug delivery systems.
  • Experience in designing of experiments.
  • Experience in python scripting in day-to-day activities relevant to data analysis and controlling robotic platforms.
  • Experience and understanding of machine learning techniques (applied in a scientific context).
