MB601: Assistant Quantity Surveyor
Location: Belfast
Salary: Competitive
Working Hours: Monday to Friday

Overview:

First Military Recruitment is proudly working in partnership with a fantastic business who are looking to recruit a Quantity Surveyor on a permanent basis due to growth based at their Belfast office.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in commercially managing a contract (or contracts), providing a comprehensive and professional commercial service from contract award to completion.
  • Contribute to delivering or improving on agreed profitability and cash collections targets, preparing change control and applications for payment in a timely manner for review and submission to the client.
  • Support, from commencement to completion, the provision of all commercial deliverables in line with contract requirements and timescales (including supply chain contracts), monitoring the production of records, correspondence and documentation required to strengthen the Company’s commercial position. Key supporting task are inclusive of:
  • Cost control;
  • Cash collection (original scope, change control and claims);
  • Change control; and
  • Sub-contract procurement and account administration.
  • Contractual notifications (delay, loss and/or expense, practical completion, etc.);
  • Claims (time and cost); and
  • Contract close-out/final account.
  • Personally develop core commercial, Company and industry related skills and knowledge, inclusive of:
  • Commercial skills using the RICS competencies as the base (Quantity Surveying pathway);
  • A comprehensive understanding of the Companies policies, procedures and core values; and
  • A working knowledge of core business systems.
  • Work with commercial and contract lead to ensure all change control are submitted promptly in accordance with the contract(s). Provide support to substantiate relevant information that promotes early agreement without significant impact on cash or prolonged risk to profitability.
  • Grow relationship with customers. Attend regular meetings to review and resolve commercial issues.
  • Attend and assist in the preparation of appropriate information for project meetings, inclusive of:
  • Weekly Cost Value Comparison (CVC) reviews;
  • Risk and opportunities workshops;
  • Projects reviews;
  • Sub-contractor/supplier account meeting; and
  • Client account and commercial meeting.
  • Develop a working relationship between the commercial team and business functions and contribute in keeping the teams commercially informed and furnished with appropriate information.
  • Assist in the production of periodic contract updates in line with Company reporting requirements. Report contents are inclusive of:
  • Change control and claims position/progress;
  • Cash and debt position/forecast;
  • Contract risk and opportunities management plan; and
  • Current and projected cost, revenue and profitability.
  • Ensure the core values of the Company concerning people are upheld.
  • Undertake other duties as necessary to meet the varying demand of the Company and their customers, e.g. providing tender support.



Skills and Qualifications:

  • BSc in Quantity Surveyor or equivalent qualification.
  • Effective communicator (written and verbal) and experience in negotiation.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • AssocRICS or other relevant RICS membership (desirable)
