Assistant Buyer

Location: Norwich

Job Type: Full-time

We are seeking an Assistant Buyer to join our client at their headquarters in Norwich. In this role, you will support the Buyer in sourcing and purchasing products, maintaining inventory levels, and ensuring that they meet the demands of customers while optimising costs. This position involves onboarding new suppliers, training stakeholders on new product ranges, and contributing to marketing strategies.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Stay up-to-date with consumer trends and buying habits.
  • Build and maintain relationships with core suppliers.
  • Handle administrative tasks on behalf of the Buyer.
  • Collaborate with other departments to assist with marketing strategies and promotional materials.
  • Work closely with the Buyer and merchandising team to maximise sales potential on all product ranges.
  • Negotiate favourable terms with suppliers, including pricing and payment conditions.
  • Make innovative recommendations to add value to the business.
  • Work with the Regional Sales Manager to ensure stores are merchandised according to brand and visual merchandising guidelines.
  • Prepare reports on procurement activities, cost savings, and supplier performance.
  • Analyse purchasing data to optimise buying strategies.
  • Ensure all products meet quality and safety standards.
  • Verify supplier compliance with contractual agreements.
  • Coordinate the organisation of product samples.
  • Manage correspondence received by the Buying Team.
  • Arrange appointments for the Buying team with supplier representatives.


Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in a buying or procurement role.
  • Strong understanding of consumer trends and market conditions.
  • Excellent negotiation and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across different departments.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in data analysis.
  • Knowledge of quality and safety standards for products.
  • Effective communication and organisational skills.
  • Proficiency in using procurement and inventory management software.
