The role

As an Assistant Buyer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You will be supporting Procurement activities within our Submarine Dismantling Project (SDP).

Day to day, you will the responsible for the execution of the requisition to pay process within a defined scope and aligned with requisitioner delegation of authority, focusing on; the execution of established supply agreements; requisition to order conversion, order book management, expediting and payment.

  • Support Buyers to ensure that Babcock's commercial position is best protected through use of agreed terms and conditions of contract and purchase orders
  • Support Buyers in execution of order book management and expediting processes to ensure the supply chain delivers on time to meet all Business Unit requirements
  • Support Buyers in execution of processes, and interfaces with finance, to ensure on-time payment to suppliers
  • Support Buyers in execution of supplier on-boarding and qualification processes to ensure selected suppliers are approved and available to trade with
  • Support Buyers to ensure that all technical and quality requirements are fully satisfied and that all material and service requirements are supplied in accordance with specifications provided

This is a full-time / permanent role at 37 hours per week and is based at our Rosyth, Fife site following a hybrid working arrangement of x2-3 days per week with the remaining to be completed from home.

Agile working may be available to employees in some instances, applying the principles of fairness and consistency whilst ensuring that the overriding business needs can be appropriately met. We are happy to consider flexible, blended working, including part-time, condensed hours, and job sharing. Please ask about alternative patterns of work at interview.

Essential experience of the Assistant Buyer:

  • Basic knowledge of Operational Procurement techniques
  • Basic knowledge of ERP Systems, e.g. SAP, IFS or Oracle
  • Strong soft skills of written / verbal communication skills, pragmatic approach to work, ability to work with cross functional and various other stakeholders

Qualifications for the Assistant Buyer:

  • Hold and/or desire of membership in CIPS or equivalent Procurement & Supply Chain qualification
