Assistant Accountant - expenditure

(Fixed term - up to 12 months)

22.5 hours per week

(Working pattern can be worked across 3, 4 or 5 days)

£15,899.40 per annum plus excellent benefits including 8% non-contributory pension

About us

The Fire Fighters Charity supports the health and wellbeing needs of the Fire Services Community and offers a broad range of services tailored to meet individual need. The Charity is there to support the UK fire family at different times during their lives and for different reasons.

About the role

As an Assistant Accountant you will be part of a small team and will be responsible for providing accounting support (expenditure) across the organisation. The role is varied, and you will be effective at ensuring the purchase ledgers of the charity and our subsidiaries are effectively maintained.

You will ensure our invoice processing and approval system is maintained; ensure routine proposed payments of suppliers meet the terms of credit provided and the cashflow position of the charity; and that appropriate payment systems are recommended to minimise bank charges.

In compliance with our purchasing policy, you will ensure employee expenses and credit cards are managed and processed monthly and that delegated financial reports are prepared and distributed, ensuring queries are investigated and resolved.

You

As well as having relevant experience in an accounts department, you will:

  • Have excellent attention to detail and strong numeracy skills;
  • Have accurate data entry skills;
  • Have excellent communication and analytical skills;
  • Have excellent IT skills and be proficient using Microsoft Office and Microsoft 365 including MS Teams.

Whilst it is essential you have experience of using an accounting software, it is desirable that you have experience using Xledger.
