After School Club & Holiday Programme Lead Worker (Part Time)

Covent Garden Dragon Hall Trust (CGDHT) is seeking a skilled and dedicated individual to join our team as the Lead Worker for our 3 weekly After School Clubs plus our Half Term & Holiday programmes, for children and young people aged 8 to 11 years old. In this role, you will lead, develop and deliver work which enables children and young people to develop new skills, gain new experiences and make new friends.

About the role

In helping young people to develop the confidence, resilience, communication, interpersonal skills etc they need to manage this transition successfully, you will lead a team to:

  • Develop high quality, impactful and varied Play Work programmes, which will include involving young people in co-creation and co-production;

  • Deliver these programmes in-line with our commitment to humanistic Play & Youth norms, values and practices;

  • Safeguard the welfare and wellbeing of young people;

  • Measure impact and benefits of these programmes, in particular through peer research;

  • Support young people from our Intermediate and Senior programmes to volunteer and gain World-of-Work experience;

  • Build/ maintain positive relationships with parents, carers and the wider community.

You will work as part of a team and share responsibility for planning play activities to create a high-quality stimulating environment offering a range of play opportunities. The role involves delivering high quality, safe and engaging play sessions.

You will develop and deliver high quality inclusive play work sessions underpinned by humanistic play and youth work practices, where every young person has the right to be included, have a platform for their voice and to make decisions for themselves. The post involves liaising with parents, carers, the wider community and partners about the project, involving them in session delivery and sustainability.

Key Tasks:

1. Using a child-centred approach to establish relationships that are based on mutual respect, voluntary participation and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people;


2. Supporting the delivery and development of high quality Play & Youth work programmes and services, in close collaboration with other staff;


3. Facilitating the co-production of activities with children and young people, so that they are able to locate their 'voice’ and start using it effectively;


4. Monitoring and evaluating projects with participants, volunteers and staff, to effectively evidence the impact of Dragon Hall’s work with children and young people;


5. Supporting older young people in their volunteering and social action work;


6. To regularly assess, record and report on the development, progress and attainment of children using

7. Setting up a safe, inclusive space that maximises the learning and development opportunities available to children and young people;


8. Ensuring that the space is clean & tidy and that all equipment is put away correctly at the end of the session;


9. Contributing to Dragon Hall’s annual planning. monitoring and development activities;


10. Working towards becoming a reflective practitioner through continuous self assessment;


11.To engage with professional development opportunities as agreed with Line Manager.
