Job Title: 1:1 Teaching Assistant (Diabetic and Epileptic Support)

Location: Waltham Forest

Employment Type: Full-time, Contract

Are you a compassionate and dedicated individual with experience in supporting children with complex medical needs? Join our inclusive school community in Waltham Forest where we are committed to providing a supportive and nurturing environment for all students. We are currently seeking a caring and experienced 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a child who is diabetic and epileptic on a full-time basis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide dedicated one-to-one support to a child with diabetes and epilepsy, ensuring their safety, well-being, and inclusion within the school environment.
  • Monitor the child's medical condition closely, including blood sugar levels and seizure activity, and administer medication or emergency treatment as required, following established protocols and guidelines.
  • Work collaboratively with the school nurse, parents/carers, and medical professionals to develop and implement a comprehensive care plan that addresses the child's medical and educational needs.
  • Support the child academically by assisting with learning activities, providing encouragement and reinforcement, and adapting teaching materials to accommodate their individual needs.
  • Foster a positive and supportive relationship with the child, promoting their independence, self-confidence, and social integration within the classroom and school community.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children with medical needs, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Knowledge and understanding of diabetes and epilepsy management, including administering insulin, monitoring blood glucose levels, and recognizing and responding to seizures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with children, parents/carers, and colleagues.
  • Empathy, patience, and resilience to support the child's emotional and physical well-being in challenging situations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team, including teachers, medical professionals, and support staff.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, following relevant policies and procedures.
