One-to-one SEN Teaching Assistant

Job Type: Full-time

Location: Chatham

We are seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support to a Year 5 student at a school in Chatham, who presents challenging behaviours and has difficulties completing academic work. The ideal candidate will have a passion for education, a patient and resilient approach, and a particular interest in facilitating outdoor activities and PE, which the student enjoys.

Day to day of the role:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 support to a Year 5 student, helping them to engage with their learning and manage challenging behaviours and language.
  • Develop and implement strategies to assist the student in completing their work and achieving their educational goals.
  • Utilise outdoor activities and PE to promote positive behaviour and enhance the student’s learning experience.
  • Work closely with the class teacher to monitor the student’s progress and adapt support strategies as needed.
  • Foster a safe and supportive learning environment that encourages the student’s social, emotional, and academic development.
  • Communicate effectively with the student, staff, and parents to ensure a cohesive approach to the student’s education.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience working as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar role supporting children with SEN and challenging behaviours.
  • Understanding of the educational needs of children and how to engage them in learning.
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour calmly and effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A proactive and creative approach to teaching that can inspire and motivate children.
  • Patience, resilience, and a genuine passion for working with children.
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
