Job Title: Structural EngineerLocation: In person, Chessington, KT9 1BDSalary: Up to £65,000 per annum (based upon 5-day 37.5-hour week) depending on experience.Job Type: Permanent, Full timeAbout us:We are a multi-disciplinary firm of Consulting Civil and Structural Engineers and Building Surveyors, established in 1990.We specialise in forensic investigations, forensic engineering, and disaster recovery, and our project sites takes us into Central London and into the Home Counties.Our Client base ranges across varying sectors including; public sector, residential, commercial, and education.Responsibilities and Duties:As a Structural Engineer, you will assist the structural engineering team with the design and management of key projects. Your key responsibilities will include but may not be limited to;Providing engineering services to time and budgetDefects analysis of existing buildings and associated report writingInspection and assessment of damaged structures and the preparation of repair schedules and specificationsDevelopment of structural schemes for new build developmentsUndertaking elemental design calculationsPreparing reinforcement detail drawings, bending schedules, and structural steel detailsPreparation of contract documents for structural repair projects and acting as Contract AdministratorCarrying out general administration and issuing of drawingsOn-site survey workInspections of contractors' work on-siteAssisting in the provision of and/or providing fee proposalsDealing with technical queries and providing assistance to junior members of staffProviding a checking service within the engineering team and across teamsReviewing other engineers' work for LicensesDeveloping and maintaining an awareness of the liability the Company attracts when Design Disclosure Documents are issued, and decisions madeAdopting a helpful and courteous manner when dealing with all outside parties including clients, contractors, statutory bodies, and members of the publicAdopting a responsible attitude toward aspects of Health and Safety in accordance with the Company's H&S Policy and proceduresAbout you:Relevant Education & Experience Required:Essential:A degree in Structural Engineering from a university recognised by the IStructEMEng or BEng or BSc university qualification - minimum 2:1Minimum 5 years full time employed working experienceHold a valid driving license and have access to a car and be willing to use it for site visits subject to the payment of expensesDesirable:Applicant will be qualified to chartered status either MIStructE or AIStructE or IMIStructE, or will be nearing chartered statusFurther attributes we would like you to have:Training and experience:Have experience in design and supervision/inspection of structural works on site including:Reinforced concreteStructural steelworkStructural MasonryStructural TimberFoundationsHave experience in the inspection of buildings suffering from structural distress and be able to identify the cause and extent of damage including:SubsidenceRoof spreadFire damageDeleterious material failureExplosionOverloadingExperience of managing small and medium sized projects up to £5mHave a working knowledge of building defects, what can cause them and what measures should be taken to repair such damages (in-house assistance is also provided)Possess strong technical knowledge and the ability to apply effectively in practiceShow evidence of effective and clear report writing skills and the confidence to make recommendations for further action such as any necessary further investigations and/or scope of repairs and remediationBe able to draw detailed clear and tidy hand sketches for the purposes of identifying current and proposed construction. Sketches to be annotated with clear and legible handwritingDemonstrable experience in producing specifications in adherence with current guidelinesBe able to produce clear annotated calculations in support of their design sufficient for building regulation submissions and for relaying information to draftsmen for production of drawingsBe able to produce clear annotated drawings on AutoCADBe proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook etc.Be able to handle potentially large number of projectsBenefits:Progression20 days annual leave plus bank holidays.
