Food & Nutrition Technician and Learning Support Assistant OverviewWe are looking for a proactive and enthusiastic individual to join our school community in a dual role that combines technical support in Food & Nutrition with student-focused assistance across the curriculum. This is a varied and rewarding position that plays a key part in both the smooth running of practical food lessons and the academic and personal development of students with additional needs. Location: Tower Hamlets Job Type: Full time, Permanent Start: September Salary: £24,000 Main Duties and Responsibilities Food & Nutrition Technician Ensure food preparation areas are clean, safe, and well-organised at all timesSupport the setup, delivery, and clearing away of practical food lessonsMonitor stock levels, order supplies, and manage kitchen resources efficientlyCarry out regular safety checks and maintain kitchen equipment in line with health and safety standardsAssist teaching staff in preparing for lessons and practical demonstrationsGuide students in using kitchen tools and techniques safely and effectivelyHelp create engaging displays of student work within the department and around the schoolKeep accurate records of stock, equipment usage, and safety inspectionsOrganise and maintain departmental storage and resourcesProvide general administrative support to the Food & Nutrition department Learning Support Assistant Work closely with individual students or small groups to support their learning, under the direction of teaching staffHelp implement and monitor Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students with special educational needsEncourage a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environmentAssist students with a range of subjects, including literacy and numeracyObserve and report on student progress to teachers and the SENCOSupport school events and activities, ensuring students are fully includedDeliver targeted interventions in reading and numeracy as directed Additional Duties Carry out other tasks as directed by senior staff, including operating the school tillAssist with exam invigilation during GCSEsUndertake any other reasonable duties as requested by the Head of School What We’re Looking For A good understanding of food hygiene and safety proceduresExperience working with children or young people, ideally in an educational settingStrong organisational skills and the ability to manage time effectivelyA team player who communicates well with staff and studentsPatience, empathy, and a genuine interest in supporting young people’s learning and well-being Additional Information This is a full-time role, following the school’s term-time scheduleOngoing training and professional development opportunities will be providedAppointment is subject to an enhanced DBS check in line with school safeguarding policies If you’re passionate about food education and committed to helping students thrive, we’d love to hear from you.
