Contract Opportunity: Database Development Technical Lead (AWS Focus) An esteemed public sector organization is seeking an experienced Database Development Technical Lead to provide technical leadership for an agile team, supporting and managing key Database Services. This contractor will play a pivotal part in accelerating the transition from legacy on-prem databases to new cloud-native solutions, specifically focusing on AWS development. About the Team & Role: The team operates within a dynamic environment, emphasizing collaboration, agility, and infrastructure-as-code. The Database Engineer will lead initiatives such as transitioning Oracle databases, managing migrations to AWS, implementing CDK constructs, and overseeing the rollout of a centralized backup solution for AWS PostgreSQL. Location: This position adopts a hybrid work approach within central belt of scotland, with occasional onsite collaboration as project needs dictate. Key Outcomes & Objectives: Lead the transition of specific databases from legacy hardware to new hosting environments.Manage migrations of in-scope on-prem databases to AWS.Implement and enhance CDK constructs supporting database migration and management in AWS.Oversee the rollout of a centralized backup solution for PostgreSQL.Collaborate effectively with technical colleagues to manage interdependencies. Additional Services: Define, refine, and prioritize the database roadmap and backlog in collaboration with stakeholders.Lead efforts to reduce the legacy database estate, facilitating a transition to modern, stable environments.Actively participate in relevant steering groups, ensuring adherence to architectural and engineering principles.Coach and mentor team members, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and teamwork.Maintain appropriate documentation and artifacts related to data standards and local work instructions.Create plans for updating, installing, and testing new versions and upgrades of databases.Work closely with the team to adapt and improve support processes for timely issue resolution. Essential Skills & Experience: Significant commercial experience with AWS technologies, Serverless (Lambda), Typescript, CDK, SQL, RDS, PostgreSQL, and monitoring solutions.Demonstrable experience in collaborative software development and working with business stakeholders.Design and implementation of database infrastructure projects, handling complex dependencies.Experience in Agile delivery models (Scrum and/or Kanban).Cloud database monitoring, telemetry, intelligence tools, and infrastructure-as-code definition.Testing disaster recovery procedures and experience in data replication and high-availability technology. Desirable Skills & Experience: Experience delivering new software consuming services from a centralized database management team.Commercial experience with Oracle, Informix, MongoDB, Ansible, and Python. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and translate them into scalable and optimised database solutions.
