Deputy HR Director
  • Annual Salary: £40,000 - £54,000
  • Location: Hybrid working model
  • Job Type: Full-time

My client is seeking a Deputy HR Director to provide exemplary leadership within our People Services. This role is integral to our dual organisation, requiring a strategic thinker with a hands-on approach to manage shared services and lead the People Service. The successful candidate will report to the HR Director and deputise for the Group Director of People, playing a key role in championing a proactive People service aligned with our vision and objectives.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Deputise for the Group Director of People, supporting the People team in delivering a high-quality service.
  • Partner with senior managers to align the People Service with organisational strategy and objectives.
  • Provide consultancy and advisory services on employment issues, supporting business planning and HR service delivery.
  • Offer expert advice on employment law and conditions of service, ensuring consistent application of HR policies.
  • Lead on People Safeguarding matters, maintaining accurate records and overseeing the Single Central Record.
  • Manage attendance systems, driving up attendance rates with suitable interventions.
  • Coordinate recruitment activities, improving applicant quality and marketing the organisation as an employer of choice.
  • Support performance and capability improvement measures across the organisation.
  • Facilitate change management processes, consulting with trade unions and managing redeployment issues.
  • Develop and revise People Policies, ensuring legal compliance and good employment practices.
  • Oversee job analysis, skills audits, and staff development processes for effective succession planning.
  • Design and deliver staff development programmes to enhance people management skills.
  • Line manage staff, ensuring compliance with policies and effective team management.
  • Lead HR projects and deputise for the Group Director of People as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Graduate member of CIPD - Level 7 qualified, MCIPD, or Fellow CIPD.
  • Degree in a relevant subject area.
  • Five GCSE’s or equivalent including passes in English & Mathematics.
  • Extensive knowledge of employment legislation and HR best practices.
  • Experience in HR project management and delivering organisational change.
  • Proficiency in using HR databases for data analysis.
  • Background in the education sector is desirable.
  • Experience in a unionised environment and supervisory roles.
  • Strong negotiation, mediation, facilitation, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Office Applications including Excel.
  • A valid DBS check is required.
