Description

This course is an ideal reference for those who are interested to discover or gain in-depth knowledge about special needs massage. By the end of this course, students shall learn:

(1) how to perform a smorgasbord of massage techniques and stress management approaches for terminally-ill clients and people with learning difficulties;

(2) ensure client and personal safety during a massage therapy;

(3) properly use a variety of essential oils in massage therapies;

(4) and how to set up a massage therapy practice and market their services.

As the saying goes, “different strokes, for different folks.” This rings true when it comes to massages. Although massage therapies are generally designed to achieve healing and connect people with their bodies, not all types work well for everyone. Individuals who fall in the special needs category, in particular, may not react well to certain types of massage techniques due to their conditions.

The power of touch cannot be understated. Proper massage techniques and approaches can provide relief to a variety of health challenges and limitations. As such, those who have the intent to become massage therapists or bodyworkers should learn how to identify clients with special requirements and modify their techniques and approaches to fit specific circumstances. Doing so will ensure that they will be able to utilise the transformative power of touch to deliver healing and comfort to clients with unique requirements.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
