Overview

This qualification provides the perfect platform to further develop your L&D career and gain the knowledge needed to work towards professional membership of the CIPD. It will help you develop your ability to evaluate different L&D models and practices and increase your understanding of external factors which impact upon L&D interventions within organisations. You'll also develop your planning, analytical and problem-solving skills as an integral part of enhancing your L&D specialist skills.


Students must come into CIPD membership before starting their qualification, and must remain in CIPD membership for the duration of their studies.

The qualification is programme is made up of an introductory webinar and seven subsequent face-to-face workshops and webinars:

Introductory webinar (1 hour)
• Developing Professional Practice (1 day and 1 day webinar)
• Business Issues and the Context of L&D (2 days and 1 hour webinar)
• Using Information in L&D (1 day and 1 hour webinar)
• Meeting Organisational Development Needs (1 day and 1 hour webinar)
• Developing Coaching and Mentoring within Organisations (1 day and 1 hour webinar)
• Improving Organisational Performance (2 days and 1 hour webinar)
• Managing and Co-ordinating the L&D Function (2 days and 1 hour webinar).

Who is this course for?

This qualification is suitable for you if you're currently working in the field of L&D management and wish to extend your knowledge and skills in order to develop your career. You may be seeking to gain credibility and recognition by working towards a professional level of membership. The ideal candidate will be responsible for implementing organisational L&D policies and strategies and will be interested in the impact of the wider organisational and environmental context on L&D.

There are two options for completing this qualification:

modular and fast-track.

The fast-track programme is more intensive and for those who wish to gain the qualification in a shorter space of time.  The information on this page covers the modular option.

Career path

On successful completion of the programme, you’ll be awarded the CIPD Level 5 Intermediate Certificate in HR Development and have gained the knowledge for assessment for CIPD Associate professional membership.

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
