Workshop Team Leader

Sheet metal, fabrication, welding

If you have experience in supervising technical teams in a workshop environment then this could be ideal for you. This could suit someone with experience in CNC, precision engineering, mechanical assembly , sheet metal, welding etc

The company are one of the leading manufacturing business in the Exeter area and have invested in a new manufacturing site so you will be working in a modern site with great facilities.

We are looking for a dynamic and proactive Team Leader to oversee the Metal Shop’s paint, weld, and general assembly operations. This role is perfect for a self-driven individual with strong leadership capabilities, a keen eye for detail, and comprehensive knowledge of metal shop processes. The successful candidate will coordinate the manufacture of sheet metal components, maintain quality control, and instill a positive culture within the team.

Day to Day of the Role:
  • Maintain product quality, ensuring all components are manufactured within specified tolerances.
  • Monitor and progress work to meet scheduled requirements and sign off completed work.
  • Allocate labour to meet production schedules and organise overtime as needed.
  • Manage stock of paint, packaging, and consumables, ensuring stock accuracy and regular checks.
  • Complete daily maintenance, cleaning, and process control check sheets.
  • Implement and adhere to company process controls, reporting any issues to the supervisor.
  • Report maintenance issues and organise contractors to minimise machine downtime.
  • Maximise productivity through good working practices and continuous improvement.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience in management within a sheet metal manufacturing environment is desirable.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and use measuring equipment.
  • Training in Lean, 5S, and Six Sigma is advantageous.
  • IOSH training is beneficial.
  • CNC experience or a mechanical background is a plus.
  • A proactive approach to continuous improvement and team development.
