About Bradstow

Bradstow School is looking for dedicated people to start their career in Social Care. Our Residential Support Worker position does not require any previous experience and you will be trained by our in-house trainers in a nationally recognised NVQ level 3 award. This position will provide you with all the experience you need to develop. We pride ourselves on developing staff to become Keyworkers with the opportunity to progress to management positions as well.

Bradstow is a creative and unique residential school for children between the ages of 5 & 19. It is situated in 13 acres of parkland just a few hundred metres from the sandy beaches of Broadstairs. We seek to meet the needs of children and young people with autism and severe learning difficulties with associated behaviours that may be challenging. We have achieved national recognition for our developments in Communication and Behaviour Management

Waking Night Attendant - The Role:

As Waking Night Attendant, you will be responsible for the supervision and care of the young people at night. Ensuring that night-time routines follow pre-agreed strategies and procedures and are implemented consistently. Organising and implementing 'housekeeping’ activities at the request of the Home Managers.

The core working time will be agreed between the post holder and the Head of Residential Services to meet the operational demands upon the Department. The main working hours will be between the hours of 21:30pm and 07:30am.

Key Responsibilities;

  • To maintain students’ health and safety.
  • To oversee the implementation personal care programmes overnight.
  • To oversee the organisation and implementation of housekeeping duties as required, when student -related duties permit, to contribute towards the upkeep of the home environment.
  • To carry out agreed student - related routines and procedures, and implement their IEP and support plans overnight.
  • To record events, routine activities as required and incidents using the appropriate documentation and files, and participate in pupil planning and evaluation as and when appropriate.
  • To commit to training, induction and continuous professional development and ensure that all staff under your supervision undertake training as required.
  • To be aware of the school policies and to act in accordance with them.
  • To work in accordance with the Council's Equal Opportunities Policy.
  • Any other duties commensurate with grade as directed by the Head of Residential Services, Home Manager or Senior Management
  • To be fully aware of and understand the duties and responsibilities arising from the Children’s Act 2004 and Working Together in relation to child protection and safeguarding children and young people.
  • To ensure that the line manager is made aware and kept fully informed of any concerns which the worker may have in relation to safeguarding and/or child protection.

Working at Bradstow can be both physically and mentally demanding. In order to be able to cope with this stress, candidates must be both physically and emotionally robust.

Waking Night Attendant - What we need from you:

  • Experience working with children/people with severe learning difficulties and/or autism, or with other children/people in a residential setting.
  • Awareness of the needs of children and young people with Learning Difficulties, Autism and Challenging Behaviour.
  • A calm, responsible and mature outlook on life together with the ability to work alone at times and deal with difficult situations.
  • Being supportive of other staff, willing to act as a mentor and share best practice.
  • Ability to follow students’ IEP’s (Individual Education Plan) and care/support plans.
  • Assist in the management of the record keeping for the homes.
  • Ability to demonstrate written and verbal communication skills and communicate with all multi-disciplinary teams associated with the school.
  • Willingness to take part in the daily routines of the school.
  • Ability to demonstrate the skills required to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A willingness to contribute to the life of the school in general including major School / parents events on a weekend

Please note: post holders must be willing to commit to obtaining the Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare within 2 years of the start of their employment if not already obtained

Must also be willing to commit to completing Understanding Safe Handling of Medication Level 2
