We’re looking for a Visitor Experience Officer to join us at Dunstable Downs. Being a Visitor Experience Officer for the National Trust is all about people – connecting with them, inspiring them, and making sure they have the best possible day when they come to visit.

Hours: 22.5 hours per week, regular weekend working will be required. On average working three days a week.

Salary: £14,320.8 per annum

This salary will be applicable from 1st April 2024.

What it's like to work here You'll be one of two Visitor Experience Officers that work together to lead a small and dynamic team of Welcome and Service Assistants. You and your team will work closely with a group of dedicated volunteers to ensure we always have a friendly face to greet our visitors and help them to enjoy their visit. You'll work closely with our Senior Visitor Experience Officer to develop experiences that will move, teach and inspire visitors. 
You'll act as a Duty Manager to ensure our visitor operations remain compliant, well presented and well-staffed each day. You'll ensure an efficient daily running of the visitor offer and support all departments where required whilst on duty. For example opening and closing the building, helping with lunch cover, and responding to urgent visitor enquiries. What you'll be doing As a Visitor Experience Officer, you'll role model excellent customer service ensuring that visitors expectations are met. As a team leader you will coach, train and support your team so that they are confident in achieving in their goals. You'll be enthusiastic about the work we do as a charity and focus on growing support through fundraising and membership, inspiring visitors to support Dunstable Downs and the National Trust.
Understanding how and why we engage our supporters is key. Working with our spirit of place, you’ll work with the visitor welcome team to link everything we do back to our cause and the on-going work we do. You’ll deliver high standards of presentation at the property, and ensure all our communications with our visitors, from the first click on the website, to the posters and signs around the property are clear and consistent.

We'd love to hear from you if you’re:

  • used to multiple deadlines and managing your own workload
  • skilled in organisation and planning, with a good eye for detail
  • good at talking to, and getting on with, all kinds of people
  • a hard-working and committed team player
  • comfortable with IT: Microsoft Office, as well as web and social media
  • experienced in producing interpretive materials, such as displays and exhibitions, and marketing or promotional materials
  • familiar with health and safety procedures
